Janet E McElhaney, MD

Advanced Medical Research Institute of Canada

Dr. McElhaney's research interests include the impact of immunosenescence on the immune responses to vaccination, immunologic biomarkers of protection mediated by vaccination, and how vaccination plays a role in preventing disability in older adults. Her research program, the “Vaccine Initiative to Add Life to Years” (VITALiTY), is an interdisciplinary approach to identifying risk factors for catastrophic disability, explore the contribution of “inflammaging”, and design interventions to reduce risk of disability including vaccines and immunotherapies. The major focus of her research has been the development of T cell correlates of protection against influenza and their application to clinical trials of new vaccines.
